In Foundation Studies we aim to provide you with a foundation for your future creative practice by introducing you to a range of skills and materials as well as conceptual issues relevant to all visual art and design disciplines. All our courses are taught by practicing artists, who actively contribute to research in their fields.

Projects and activities are designed to introduce you to a range of skills and theories relating to image and object making, the human form, time-based work and constructive imagination. The application of two-dimensional and three-dimensional representation and topics such as composition, the dynamics of colour, model making, and pictorial space will be explored.

Discussion and critical appraisal are important additions to observation, concept and practical development. Occupational health and safety instructions form an integral part of our courses.
Foundation Studies strives to provide a safe and inclusive teaching and learning environment and is taking student engagement seriously.
