Facilities

Generous, well-lit studio spaces provide for a personal space for each student as well as photo-finishing, display and tutorial areas.

All studio spaces are air-conditioned. Photomedia has two new large darkroom complexes. One caters for colour and black and white photography with two state-of-the-art wide-format paper processors, and the other caters for mural printing, fine printing, toning, and non-silver techniques.

Photomedia also has a digital studio for digital photography input, scanning and printing, as well as digital video, animation and multimedia. Students also work in the three computer teaching laboratories. It also provides a well equipped lighting studio with studio flash equipment.

The workshop operates a top end inkjet research facility, incorporating an Oce printer that is capable of printing on anything less than 40mm thick.

Although students are required to provide their own camera and photographic tools and equipment, Photomedia has a fully equipped store from which students may borrow additional photographic equipment such as medium and large format cameras, and accessories, if required.

The department has an extensive complex of up to date computer labs with peripherals and software; well equipped colour and black and white darkrooms; a suite of sound and video recording and editing studios; a professional lighting studio; two student galleries for exhibitions of art works and new media works; generous student work spaces; and specialist research facilities such as an inkjet research facility for wide format printing on a variety of materials.
