Coursework Degrees

Masahiro Asaka, Glass WorkshopThe postgraduate Coursework programs listed below are taught in all of the School's Workshops, except where specified differently. Coursework students take part in the weekly Graduate Seminar Program, have access to visiting artists and to all of the School's activities.

Application Deadlines for first and second semesters are normally October 31 and May 31 each year.

Coursework degrees are fee-based, with fees varying depending on the program and on the unit load of courses undertaken. Information on fees for both domestic and international students can be found on the ANU's Study@ 'Tuition Fees' page. You should note that the Australian Government provides the FEE-HELP loan scheme for domestic students.

The Programs

Graduate Diploma of Art (Visual) - 2 semesters
An 'entry level' graduate program involving students in studio practice courses and one core theory course.

Master of Visual Arts - 3 semesters, (48 weeks)
The MVA provides for three semesters of intensive studio practice.

Master of Design Arts - 3 semesters, (48 weeks)
The MDA is offered in the following: Ceramics, Glass, Furniture, Gold and Silversmithing and Textiles. It is particularly aimed at those with an interest in the designer/maker model.

Master of Arts (Visual Arts) - 4 semesters
Students in the MA(VA) choose a mix of studio practice, research, theory and other courses.

Master of Visual Effects - two semesters
The MVFX is taught in the School's Photography and Media Arts Workshop. It is designed for people developing their professional experience in the broadcast and production industries, creative design arts and media research areas.

Master of New Media Arts - 2 semesters
The underlying principle of this program is the development of aesthetic sensibilities in the artistic use of computers.
