Biography

Ben Rak is a printmaker and photographer whose main interest lies in the expanded field of printmedia.  His practice explores authentic identity in consumer and sub culture by utilizing the print to deal with ideas of mass production, repetition and reproduction.

Rak is the co-founder and director of Throwdown Press, a residency based print program which invites artists to produce etchings and silkscreen prints creating discourse on the role of printmaking within a contemporary art practice.

Throughout his career, Rak has undertaken residencies at Sydney’s Cicada Press, Chiangmai Art on Paper and Canberra Glassworks and has been awarded several awards and grants, including an Australia-Thailand Institute grant.  His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in several public institutions in Australia, Thailand and the United States.
