Born in Paris France, Frank Thirion holds a PhD in painting from the Australian National University (2004), Bachelor of Arts, Honours (Visual Arts) ANU School of Art and a University Medal (1999).  Current body of works explore how light in an auxetic universe is effected by gravity over astronomical distances.

His works are in the collections of the National Museum of Australia, Australian Parliament House (Canberra), and the Murray-Darling Basin Authority, as well as in private collections in Australia, France, Germany and USA. Awards include the Canberra Critics’ Circle Award for Visual Arts ACT (2009); the Canberra Art Prize (2002); and the ANU Tillyard Prize (1999).

Frank has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions including the Archibald Prize (finalist, 2012) Art Gallery of NSW; the Wynne Prize (finalist four times) Art Gallery of NSW; the Salon de refusés (2013) S.H. Ervin Gallery Sydney, NSW; Future Proof (2013), Canberra Contemporary Art Space Gorman House, ACT, and the Blake Prize (finalist, 2014) UNSW Galleries, Sydney NSW.
