Artist statement

Working in C++, Gareth wrote this project with openFrameworks, drawing some code from Kyle McDonald for the particle system, some inspiration from Robert Hodgin for the stippling, and imagery from NASA and the Solar Dynamics Observatory, specifically the AIA temperatures 094Å, 335Å, 193Å composite, 211Å, 193Å, 171Å composite, and 171Å. The work is a visual metaphor for the crystallisation and interpretation of scientific data and method to create new media for the digital age, and a response to WJ Macdonnell's telescope at the landmarks exhibition.
