Workshop: Glass

Amber Cowan is a sculptor using the material of glass as her primary media. She has been working with glass for over ten years and has received both her MFA in Glass/Ceramics from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, USA and her BFA in 3-Dimensional Design with a concentration in Glass from Salisbury University, USA. Cowan works with processes which involve flameworking, blowing, and hot-sculpting recycled, up-cycled, and second-life glass that is usually American pressed glass from the 1940's-1980's.

The Procter Fellowship allowed Cowan undertake a residency in the Glass Workshop at the ANU where she was able to experiment and explore works of art utilising and reforming factory produced decorative glass. By recycling and recontextualising objects that were initially made as homewear decorations, she incorporated the original context into the new meaning.
