Artist Statement

My work investigates formal and conceptual instances of correlation, relatedness and arrangements of both analogous and disparate form.

I utilize the shifting interplay of form, appendage and surface to make objects, which draw on my interests in science, politics and cultural issues. Thrown, altered forms reference pots, biomorphic forms, the body, mutations, systems and both futuristic and retro technological devices.

My current work explores the physicality of form and the ways in which objects occupy and conform to space, gravity and other objects. Softened and rounded forms, created from elemental shapes, allude to familiar forms and objects but elude specificity. Bright colors are reminiscent of Pop Art and forms that imply actions, create a silent dialog between relational elements. Humor is always present in the way that these forms evoke a sense of the familiar and the absurd at the same time. These works “queer” the formalist art object and upend viewer’s expectations of ‘aesthetic’ form.
