David Hamilton was born and educated in Hobart Tasmania. For 30 years he was Head of Sculpture, University of Tasmania at Launceston. He presently works as a full time practising sculptor and during 2011 successfully completed a PhD titled Fragments: Beyond the Object.

Over the last ten years David has exhibited in over 40 curated and juried exhibitions both in Australia and overseas and his work is represented in various university, public, corporate and private collections.  During this time he has undertaken a number of major public sculpture commissions in his home state of Tasmania. His present technical interest is focussed on the use of the hydrographic printing process as a means for surface adornment of sculptural forms.
