Born in Rhode Island in the United States of America, Matthew Szösz has received a BFA, a BID (Industrial Design), and a MFA (Glass) from Rhode Island School of Design. He has worked professionally in art and art related fields in Rhode Island, New Mexico and California for the last ten years. Recently he has received the Pilchuck Scholarship, a Stein Fund Grant, the Award of Excellence in Graduate Studies from RISD and the Jutta Cuny-Franz Award in 2009.
The Procter Fellowship allowed Szösz to explore and refine his working methods in the Glass Workshop at the Australian National University. The residency gave him the opportunity to refine his working techniques along with sharing his skills and passion for glass with the students. Szösz had a dynamic presence in the Glass Workshop, inviting open dialogue with the students and encouraging artistic exploration.
