Book Studio

Studio resources include an intaglio editioning press, relief print drying racks, an intaglio print drying cupboard, a Graphix cylinder proofing letterpress, twelve cabinets of metal type, a number of drawers of wooden type, a photopolymer relief-plate casting machine, a boxboard guillotine, a book guillotine, a bookbinding vice, assorted bookbinding tools, a simple computer setup with an inkjet printer, and a small display area.

These resources are available to Honours and Postgraduate students, Staff, Visiting Artists and Alumni Artists-in-Residence.

The studio has an undergraduate ‘Book’ Complimentary course on Mondays and holds the occasional public workshop on letterpress or bookbinding.

There is a twice-weekly 'Book Clinic' time for drop-in advice about planning and producing artist's books each Tuesday and Friday between 10am and 2.30pm (during all term times in 2011 except term 3). The Book Studio Technical Officer, Caren Florance, has a wide range of book-related interests and skills. Book Clinic is available to all students at the School of Art.

Residencies are available upon application of a written proposal. They can range from a short one-off project to a semester-long residency. Applications should be submitted to Patsy Payne, head of the Printmedia + Drawing workshop
