Tracy Pateman, Honours student in the Gold and Silversmithing Workshop, was awarded the The P.J. Williams Award for innovative design in gold and silversmithing holloware, flatware or sculptural objects at the 2009 Contemporary Australian Silver & Metalwork Exhibition.

School of Art Textile Honours student Daniel Edwards has recently been awarded the American Tapestry Alliance Student Award 2009 for his work interpreting the craft movement of the 1970's. The work imagines the period of its vindication and celebrates the number of men working across all craft areas.

School of Art PhD candidate, Amanda Stuart (Sculpture) was successful twice over at the recent ANU-wide Research Fest. In a vote of confidence for the place of Practice-led Research in the College of Arts and Social Sciences, Amanda won both the Judge’s Award of $1000 for the Research Notes competition, plus the audience favourite (Prize of 2009 Full membership to ANU Fitness Centre).

Congratulations to School of Art Alumni:
2009 National Indigenous Ceramic Art Award
Dr Danie Mellor (BA Visual Art Hons 95, Phd 05) won first prize in the National Indigenous Ceramic Art Award, currently on view at Shepparton Art Gallery, for his work Materially Cultured (an allegorical scene of a bastard history).
Janet Fieldhouse (BA Visual Art Hons 04, M Phil 09), a former winner of the competition in 2007, won third prize for her work Armband.
2009 Wynne Prize
Lionel Bawden (BA Hons Painting 1998), has been awarded the 2009 Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW for his work The amorphous ones (the vast colony of our being).
